Fueling Like a Runner

Why This Site Exists (Project Abstract)

As I worked on this project, I was in the middle of training for a marathon. I was interested in the kinds of foods that runners need to eat in order to be successful on their runs. I began my research with the history of food that runners ate during a marathon. Then I learned about three professional chefs who run marathons to see what they liked to eat. My research then got specific as I looked up the benefits of carbs, protein, and electrolytes in the life of a runner. Finally, my research wrapped up as I focused on ways that rehydrating and meal prep can make a runner’s life easier.

I hope my foodways research will make life easier for beginner runners who just want to know what they should eat to fuel their run. There are a lot of blogs out there that talk about the importance of various foods, but I believe that my blog cuts the information up into bite-sizes pieces that can be taken as easily as gel packs on a run.

You can find my research by clicking on the Blog Posts button in the navigation bar. My cornerstone blog post (the cumulative post that touches on all my research) tells the story of my brutal twenty-mile run and can be read on the Cornerstone Post page. You can also find related content on my foodways research Instagram page!
